Chemical weapons watchdog: Sarin, chlorine “very probably” utilized in 2017 Syria atatcks

The worldwide chemical weapons watchdog says the nerve agent sarin and poisonous chemical chlorine had been “very probably” used as weapons in two assaults in central Syria in late March 2017. The Group for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons mentioned Wednesday that its Reality-Discovering Mission probing alleged assaults in Syria discovered that “sarin was very probably used as a chemical weapon within the south of Ltamenah” in Hama province on March 24 and that chlorine was very probably used a day later at and close to Ltamenah Hospital.

“The conclusions for the 24 March and 25 March incidents are primarily based on separate witness testimony, epidemiological evaluation and environmental samples,” OPCW mentioned Wednesday in a information launch. “The gathering of knowledge and materials, interviewing witnesses, in addition to evaluation of samples required an extended time period to attract conclusions.”

The OPCW’s fact-finding group will not be mandated to apportion blame for chemical assaults.

It is a growing story and can be up to date.
