Trial of man charged with kidnapping British mannequin opens in Italy

MILAN — The trial of a Polish man charged with kidnapping a British mannequin for ransom has opened in Italy. Lukasz Pawel Herba is charged within the July kidnapping of Chloe Ayling, who police say was lured to Milan with the promise of a modeling job.

Authorities say that when Ayling confirmed up at a supposed photographer’s studio, she was zipped inside a canvas bag and brought to a farmhouse close to Turin. The 20-year-old mannequin was held for six days earlier than she was launched on the British Consulate in Milan.

Herba maintains he’s harmless.

On Wednesday, a choose denied a protection movement to compel Ayling to testify in open courtroom. Her pre-trial testimony can be submitted as an alternative.

Ayling’s lawyer mentioned she did not wish to face her kidnapper.
